For our inaugural Bloom event, we are thrilled to be joined by the Business Support Service at Liverpool City Council. They’ll be based in our Support Hub to talk to attendees about embracing their full business potential!

Liverpool Locations: case study

To find out the impact of the support available, we spoke with Claire and Faye Newton. The sisters are co-founders of Liverpool Locations, and industry professionals, with over 44 years of combined experience in the TV and film sector. About the current landscape, Claire said:

“As we all know, Liverpool is one of the most filmed cities in the UK, outside of London. Liverpool Locations is really proud to be part of a rich and vibrant community of businesses making up Liverpool’s film, TV, and content sector – a community that is growing from strength to strength.”

The team, who have worked with global clients including Disney, HBO, and Amazon, as well as UK-based broadcasters, support up-and-coming talent through their intensive training and courses. Through the Business Support Service, they were able to access fully-funded specialist advice to develop a strategic business plan. Faye added:

“This gave us invaluable insights, ideas, business training, and mentoring plus relevant introductions. This has helped us develop a clear three-year business plan which has given us the confidence to move forward energised and focused on the next phase of our development journey.”

As well as strategic business planning, Liverpool’s team of expert advisors deliver support which covers areas including export & international, human resources, lean & process improvement, marketing & sales and procurement & tender readiness.

Support for creative leaders

Whilst their specialist advice service is available to businesses from a range of sectors, Liverpool City Council has also recently introduced support specifically aimed at Liverpool-based creative and creative technology businesses.

Junction is a six-week programme aimed at creative leaders looking to make their mark on the world. Consult provides tailored content, pairing businesses up with hand-picked creative consultants, who have “walked in their shoes.”

For those at the start of their journey, the support service can offer advice for residents thinking of starting a business along with support workshops for early-stage entrepreneurs.

All of this support is fully funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. It is therefore available free of charge to eligible Liverpool businesses and residents.
