Did you know that the city has signed a pledge to become a net zero carbon city by 2030, or that the region has a similar pledge to be net zero by 2040?
Do you know what net zero is?
For a lot of small businesses, the net zero pledges of larger global corporations might seem grand and out of reach. ‘I’m not a big emitter of carbon,’ they might say, ‘this doesn’t apply to me.’
You’d be surprised.
In order for the city to hit its target, we’re all, as business owners and consumers required to take our part. But for a lot of us, it’s hard to know where to start and what effect the things we might change, might have.
In October we’re going to have a chat about Net Zero, about how the smallest actions multiplied many times can have an enormous impact – good and bad. About how, if you work with businesses of a certain size, or the public sector, you having an eye on your emissions and a handle on sustainability, and being able to report on it, is going to be part of your contracts soon.
We’re not going to explain the climate crisis and the severity of the emergency facing the planet – we trust you know about these already.
This really will be a chat – we want to hear what you’ve been doing in your business, big or small, to impact emissions. We’ll share ideas and learn from one another.
And, for everybody who comes and for every idea shared we’ll pay for a tree to be planted. That should get us started.
We’ll see you there.

About this event series
This event series is brought to you by Baltic Creative CIC and Ethos. In partnership, they will be running 4 events across 2021 and 2022 on a quarterly basis. During each event, we’ll hear from people around the world who have faced challenges in areas and communities like ours and shaped their futures in innovative and inclusive ways. We’ll have conversations about place, but also how communities work together to shape their future – to make them places of opportunity and great places to live and work and play.
